The Top Ten Most Recent Additions to My Book Collection

Hello readers!

In this week’s Top Ten Tuesday hosted by Jana (http://thatartsyreadergirl.com ); we are talking about our most recent book haul.

I am presenting here the second lot of books that I bought from Seagull Bookstore, an independent bookstore & publishing house, during their Winter Sale last month. A couple of books and an ebook that I bought from Amazon is also added in today’s list 📚 ☺

Books from Seagull Bookstore :

The Emperor of Ice Cream

Blurb : The Emperor of Ice-Cream tells the moving tale of an Italian family living in Scotland during the rise of Mussolini and his rule in Italy.

Wolves and other stories

Blurb : Written during the final stages of the Indian Independence movement, between the gloom and angst of the interwar period and at the cusp of the beginning of modern India, Bhuwaneshwar’s short stories both capture the melancholy of the time and ask what it means to be human in an indifferent and amoral world.

Seasons in Hippoland

Blurb : This book takes readers to the fictional African nation of Victoriana, where one woman’s childhood stories threaten to change everything for her people, who have long lived under the rule of the deceitful Emperor-for-Life.

Wildfire

Blurb : Banaphool which means wildflower was the pen name of beloved Bengali writer Balaichand Mukhopadhyay (1899–1979).  Wildfire brings together forty-five short pieces by Banaphool that are brilliantly representative of his uncompromising, multifaceted talent.

Reflection and other plays

Blurb : Celebrated Indian playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar has experimented with many forms of dramatic expression in a career that now spans more than four decades, producing works that range from the realist to the symbolic, expressionist to the theater of the absurd. This volume brings together four of his most widely staged plays from the 1970s and ’80s.

Of Morsels and Marvels

Blurb : In Of Morsels and Marvels, Condé takes us on a literary journey around places she has travelled to in India, Indonesia, and South Africa. She highlights the tastes and culinary traditions that are fascinating examples of a living museum.

Voices of Dissent

Blurb : People have disagreed since time immemorial. They have argued or agreed to disagree, or eventually arrived at an agreement. But we live in times when any form of dissent in India is marked as anti-indian, suggesting that the very concept of dissent has been imported to India from the west—an argument made by those who visualize the Indian past as free of blemishes and therefore not requiring dissenting opinions. But, as Romila Thapar explores in this timely historical essay, dissent has a long history in the subcontinent, even if its forms have evolved through the centuries.

Books from Amazon :

Miss Iceland

Blurb : Named after one of Iceland’s most magnificent volcanoes, Hekla always knew she wanted to be a writer. In a nation of poets, where each household proudly displays leatherbound volumes of the Sagas, and there are more writers per capita than anywhere else in the world, there is only one problem: she is a woman.

Anxious People

Blurb : It’s New Year’s Eve and House Tricks estate agents are hosting an open viewing in an up-market apartment when an incompetent bank robber rushes in and politely takes everyone hostage.

Some Girls Do

Blurb : In this YA contemporary queer romance from the author of Hot Dog Girl, an openly gay track star falls for a closeted, bisexual teen beauty queen with a penchant for fixing up old cars.

I am very excited to read all these books. Have you read any of them? Share your thoughts with me !
